European Heritage Days 2024: History, Quotes, Wishes Observance

European Heritage Days are observed across the continent to promote European unity, share stories of common values. It makes sure that the past isn’t forgotten. In Berlin, these exceptional days are observed in September. The time has come to discover or rediscover the treasures of our national heritage and to understand the rich heritage of the past.

History of European Heritage Days

The European Union and the Council of Europe jointly organized European Heritage Days, which launched the initiative in 1985. It is one of the most widely celebrated participatory cultural events in Europe. The event was launched in France in 1984 by the Ministry of Culture. In 1985, at the Second European Conference of Ministers of Architecture in Granada, the French Minister of Culture proposed that the project be internationalized under the auspices of the Council of Europe. The Netherlands hosted its first open monument in 1987. The Republic of Sweden and Ireland joined in 1989 and Belgium and Scotland in 1990.

Cultural Property

Cultural property includes physical, or “real” cultural heritage, such as works of art. These are normally divided into two groups of portable and fixed heritage.

Intangible Culture

The “Intangible cultural heritage of history” consists of the non-physical features of a specific culture. It is often governed by social customs over a specific period of history. Concepts include ways and means of behaving in society and often formal rules for managing in a particular cultural climate.

Natural Heritage

“Natural heritage history” is an important part of a society’s heritage history, including the countryside and the natural environment, including plants and animals, scientifically known as biodiversity, as well as geological elements. Such heritage sites often function as an important component of a country’s travel business, attracting many visitors, both foreign and native. Heritage may also include cultural landscapes.
